Report is usually regarded as a tool to translate data to knowledge, to assist decision making of a company. The data we talking about now may come from the order of the business system, from accounts of stocks, trades, customers and suppliers, from data of competitors and surrounding of the company.Report can assist decision making not only in operation level but also in strategic level. For the sake of translating data to knowledge, data warehouse, on-line analysis processing tool and data mining is needed.Deficiencies of traditional report tools are discussed in this paper. Analyze its deficiencies, thus designed a brand new report tool: Max@X Analyzer.In this paper the general problem of report system is presented first: too many data; too little information; hard to drag out potential rule. How to make report tool more natural to an unskilled customer; How to be more efficient. Furthermore, the special problem in Chinese report is discussed. According to these problems ,the main solution is carried out and based on it nine universal report module have been abstracted as following: simple list; main-sub report; group report; multi-column report; nested report; bill print report; Simi-tree report; cross report; chart report. Meantime for the advanced usage, we point out two conceptions: flexibility and post alternation. And derive from these two conceptions comes multi-datasource integration; multi-datasource synchronize; controllable reverse refresh; data mini-engine; dynamic database command. Finally to meet demand of some special needs, script and report locate technique is provided in Max@X Analyzers during report designing.
