Mobile Ad Hoc Service Discovery Protocol

Mobile Ad hoc network (MANET), which is popular in network research, allows mobile nodes to spontaneously form a network and share their services. There are many achievements in the routing layer, data link layer and physical layer of MANET. But nowadays MANET is used in wide areas. So not only data transmission but also various network services should be offered by MANET. It is necessary to set a management system on network services in MANET.Service discovery, which is also called service location, is the core function of service management. While many service discovery protocols for traditional networks have been proposed, some of which have been widely used, there are only few results on service discovery in MANET.With an ongoing project, service discovery protocols in MANET are chosen as the object of this thesis based on the development of MANET and service discovery technology. Firstly, the concept and related technical problems of service discovery is introduced with a beginning of network management. Secondly, large-scaled MANET is chosen and analyzed. Thirdly, a new service discovery for large-scaled MANET is proposed, which is a combination of nomadic management and directory-less architecture. Lastly, the protocol proposed in this paper is simulated and studied with OPNET modeler.
