Actually, the network traffic is growing, the modeling, simulation, analysis andamendment of network performance getting more important and difficult.Through thestudy of network traffic, the traditional traffic model is not suitable for actualnetwork.it can be found that the network traffic has self-similarity in evidence. The routing protocol is the key problem of the Ad-Hoc establishing, also thefocus of research and difficult. Both the analysis of traffic characteristics and theresearch of routing protocol are ways to develop more complete mechanism of theAd-Hoc networks. Analyzing the traffic characteristics of the Ad-Hoc networks fromthe macro statistical perspective makes somehow great sense of research. In the beginning of this paper, the background of Ad Hoc network is introduced. Then the theory of Self-Similar was introduced, a Self-Similarity model was derivedfollowing, and analyzed the reason of the network Self-Similarity. The self-similarityof higher layers of network protocol can be mapped to the lower layers. In the end, wefocus on the basic method of modeling by OPNET and how to build a MANET.At last, a model of a Ad Hoc network was simulated by OPNET,after gettingsimulation data,we use MATLAB analyze it,verifying the conclusion that on thecondition of large scale, the traffic characteristics of the Ad Hoc network performsSelf-Similar characteristics. So that the paper can predict the network runningbehaviors which include the throughput, loss rate of packets and status of congestion. We treat these predicted materials as information fed back, build a closed loop controlsystem, so that we can realize better net working environments such as routingpolicies, channel resource allocation policies, congestion control policies and Qos ofnetwork running.
