Streaming media technology, which gives Internet the ability of transferring multimedia information, is a great renovation in communication technique. Traditional streaming media paradigm is based on Client/Server model, which make the server a bottleneck to provide services to massive users. P2P streaming media has great service-scalability and resolved the shortage of resource by taking benefit of idle resources in the network, which makes it the better solution for media distribution.Because it avoid the shortcoming of IP multicast such as poor scalability, difficult to management and requiring ISP support, the application-layer multicast technique became a hot problem in the research area of streaming media. After a logical network is constructed at application layer by grouping host nodes, the message can be transmit among nodes and achieve the network overlay. Application-layer multicast is not restricted by underlying network, characterized by scalability, flexibility, load balancing, which provides a cost-effective solution for large-scale streaming media applications.This thesis summarized P2P technique, streaming media technology and application-layer multicast technology, emphasized on the comparison and analysis of some typical P2P streaming models. Based on Gossip Protocol, an Application-layer multicast model named LSGossip was designed. Followed by description of its data organization, node management and data scheduling strategy, a teaching system using the LSGossip was introduced. The system's design principle and some key techniques, such as data management, node organizations, media data storage, data manipulating, and synchronized presentation slides, was described respectively.Thanks to the hierarchical structure managing mechanism, LSGossip avoids transmitting arbitrariness of information, reduces redundancy effectively and improves the transmission efficiency. The research on teaching system based on LSGossip provides technical support for P2P steaming media technique in teaching.
