Grid, a collection of distributed resources (such as computing, storage, communication, data.) available over a local or wide area network that appear to an end user or application as one large virtual system, is a new technology based on Internet. Grid is regarded as the third network tideway after traditional Internet and Web (World Wide Web) .Grid enables dynamic allocation of resources to varying workloads in accordance with business needs. Users do not care where the compute cycles or data reside - it is delivered to them quickly, efficiently, and seamlessly. Grid is linked with the substrate network closely and management of grid network is very important. Grid is the information technology infrastructure of the future.Grid is a new technology and there are many key technology required to be solved. This paper will concentrate on grid network management. Almost all network management is based on SNMP now. This method is severely depend on administrators'experience and can't manage automatically. So the traditional network management can't meet the need of grid. Nowadays, there are several new network management technologies, such as Web-based network management, policy-based network management, and so on. However, as the traditional network management has been used widely, those new technology can't instead it in a short period. According to the characteristic of grid, this paper proposes that adopt the traditional SNMP network management and policy-based network management jointly to manage grid network.PBNM is a network management system in which network is managed automatically according to policy data constituted in advance. It is consists of four essential components, policy management tool, policy decision point, policy enforcement point and policy repository.The main work of this paper is the design and prototype implementation of grid network management. The manage framework is consists of two modules, they are network management based on SNMP and PBNM. The former is responsible for monitoring, while the latter is for configuring network dynamically. The prototype implementation is used Java which can be used in deferent platform. The monitor module is implementing through calling for SNMP4J API which is open source. Policy data is stored in LDAP directory and the structure of policy data in LDAP directory also has been designed. The prototype can not only realize the need of grid network management but also utilize the existed system. So it is good for reducing cost and improving efficiency.
