In recent years, with computer and automatic measurement technologies developing rapidly, a new form of equipments—Virtual Instrument comes into being, which has totally changed the concept of traditional apparatus, being a great transformation in the history of the development of instruments. After analyzing the current situation and evolution trend of electronic measuring instruments and automatic test systems, an in-depth research on virtual instrument and its networking technologies is made in this thesis. To solve the questions of traditional instruments in the laboratory, such as complicated to operate, fixed functions, low-precision, difficult to achieve network connectivity and so on, a new design proposal based on virtual instrument is put forward, and eventually a networking automatic test system based on PXI Bus is developed.Three parts are discussed as follows: Firstly, the graphical development platform—LabVIEW is introduced. And then, the features of PXI bus are analyzed in details. Ulteriorly, the whole structure of the test system is proposed. Secondly, using modular boards, the system based on PXI bus is designed, including the virtual arbitrary waveform generator, virtual multi-functional digital oscilloscope and virtual digital multimeters, and then the debugging and anlysis results are given respectively. As a result, an intergrated system is built based on the previous designs. Finally, after the in-depth study of network technologies about virtual instrument, especially DataSocket, Web Server and Remote Panels, tekecommunications of the test system are realized.With software as the core, the virtual instrument test system possesses better scalability, more powerful functions, shorter development time and higher test accuracy compared to the traditional instrument. As well, data sharing and remote monitoring are realized for the system through the network, which not only saves a lot of resources and cost for the laboratory, but also widens its applied ranges.
