With the deregulation of electric power industry, the generation enterprise, as one of most important players in the power market, is undergoing significant change. Its role as a solely productive enterprise becomes a business-oriented enterprise. Sichuan Jiuyuan Electric Power Ltd., as a company specialized in development and management of cascaded hydropower company, is characterized by remote and decentralized locations, and few management staff working at the spot. These factors bring much inconvenience to the management of production and operation. In order to compete with the peer enterprise in the power market, it is imperative to adopt novel techniques to optimize the operations and reduce the costs.In this thesis, the state-of-art of modern computer management information system and associated technologies are analyzed and compared. A B/S based MIS (Management Information System) is developed according to practical requirements of Jiuyuan, by using the advanced technologies such as JSP dynamic web page and SQL server database. The system is composed of production management sub-system, material management sub-system, hydrology detection sub-system, device management sub-system and office automation sub-system, etc. The thesis describes the structure, composition, function, implementation and operation of the system in detail. And the office automation sub-system and material management system are implemented under MVC framework. All the functional modules are integrated into the whole MIS system. The implemented system is under operation and is being tested for half a year. So far, it is reliable, and has the characters such as ease-to-use, excellent graphical appearance, and convenient maintenance. The system realizes the uniformity and sharing of information and data. It greatly facilitates the production and management, and can help to enhance the efficiency of the generation company, hence make it more competitive.
