Effectively reduce the pollution of Harmonic waves and increase the power factor of marine network will produce great energy saving and avoid the danger of the collapse of power network. However, the suppression of harmonics of marine network is more complex than that of the land-based network. The traditional passive power compensate device has a difficult to meet the requirement of compensating the harmonic waves and reactive power rapidly and dynamically. Active power filter, on the contrary, has become an important choice of improving power quality.Compared with Parallel APF, Series APF in essentially is a harmonic isolator. It can be equivalent to effective series controlled impedance connected between the power grid and load; therefore the design capacity could be even smaller. For some isolated small-capacity electrical network, especially of marine network, the requirements of the right size and higher reliability of the filter is high because of the limit of the restricted space of cabin, the bad weather of sea and other factors, so that the research of SAPF has been paid more and more attention.This dissertation firstly gives a brief introduction of the fundamental principle and development of APF, and then comparison of typical detection methods of reactive power and harmonic waves, as well as comparison of control strategy of different forms of APF are made.APF has been a hot research topic in the field of power quality study and its improvement. It is necessary to serious contrasts and analyzes various methods of wave filtering for the development of more effective and inexpensive APF. The primary mission of this dissertation is comparing and studying several detection methods of reactive power and control strategy by simulation, the effects of the different kinds of detection methods especially used in SAPF are also carefully studied. Different ways of designing FIR are discussed after that. Moreover several APF design ideas based on DSP are given.In this dissertation, the statement "active filter" is often used for the representation of "active power filter".
