A few years ago, the majority of audio and video equipment only receive analog signals. Digital audio and video equipment is limited to some professional equipment, such as video editing. Now, with costs falling, consumers use digital video equipment everyday. This trend promote the development of DVD player and recorder, digital set-top boxes, digital televisions, portable video player, and also promote the audio and video data transmission on the network. However, in some countries, there are low-end users still using the traditional analog television. These analog TV only have RF inputs, which requires converting digital audio and video signals into analog RF output signal. RF modulator is used for this purpose. For the United States market, channel 3/4 RF modulator is needed. In this paper, a number of issues on digital filter design are analyzed and ultimately solved. First, the paper gives a brief introduction of the development of digital signal processing technology, and also the need for RF modulator. Then, the overall system is introduced, and the system is divided into three parts: audio processing modules, video processing modules, RF modules. Finally, the paper gives a detailed design ideas and verification method for the every module of the system. For the problem of finite word-length, the author gives a solution through detailed simulation and verification. At the same time, the problem of speed bottleneck on FPGA verification is also solved. This paper provides a reference for a pure digital RF circuit design.
