3D visualization from medical images, a multi-disciplinary subject,is now a hot spot of research on image processing. It is an importantapplication of computer graphic and image processing to biomedical domain.In medical field, visualization for medical image series can obtain 3Dimage of organ which are widely used in diagnosis, surgery planning andsimulating, radio therapy planning and teaching in anatomy. As the largestinternal organ within human body, liver plays a significant role inmodeling and simulation from academic or practical respect. This papermainly researches several key problems on visualization, including imagepreprocessing, image segmentation and visualization algorithm.In image reprocessing, at first, the decoding technology of CT imagesbased on DICOM standard is analyzed in detail. As for the high gray gradeof the image taken from CT, The paper puts forward and realizes analgorithm that is based on statistics and converts the file of DICOM intobmp. The image is preprocessed so that it facilities to the next operations.Because automatic image segmentation algorithm can not achieve idealresult, we present region growing method, active contour model and FCM.Experiments show these algorithms achieve fast and accurate segmentationresults.As for visualization algorithm, there are two different visualizationapproaches of 3D-Data Sets. One is Surface Rendering algorithm, the otheris Volume Rendering algorithm. The latter is the emphasis of the paper.The paper introduces principle of volume rendering, analyzes and comparessever volume rendering methods. Aiming to the problems of powerfulcomputing capacity and slow rendering velocity, this paper syntheticallyanalyzes all speedup technique of volume rendering, then designs our ownmethod based on VTK. the visualization is implemented by use of VTK. The size of data resource is 512×512×390. the reconstruction of CT seriesis implemented in VC++environment. The reconstructed images can vividlyshow organ. The anticipate results have got.Finally, this paper summarizes the works and research fruits andpresents the further research plan and objective.
