Medical images visualization is a multi-disciplinary subject, which applies the digital image processing, computer graphics, virtual reality technique and some related knowledge of medical science to transform the resulting data to graphics or images. Medical image visualization include two-dimensional image processing and three- dimensional reconstruction techniques, it is widely used in diagnostic, simulating and visualizing teaching. Studying on medical image visualization from medical images has important significance on science and worthiness in practical application.Direct Volume Rendering is an important technique for medical image visualization. Its application in medical 3D reconstruction is becoming more and more important. In this thesis, the principle and detail of the medical image reconstruction are described. The principle, work flow and shading model about Direct Volume Rendering are analyzed. We study and implement the Ray-casting volume rendering method and some involved techniques, such as grads computing, resampling and mapping are described. In order to improve the volume rendering speed, we use the Bounding Volume method ray casting preview ending method. From this , the data of the volume is reduced and the processing speed is improved. Finally, we implemented the Ray-casting volume rendering method on PC and obtained the anticipate result.In this thesis, the DICOM standard and information model are introduced. The thesis analyzes the formation and structure of DICOM file. Based on the DICOM standard we study the method for displaying the DICOM data on the Windows Platform and present operations of medical images, such as contrast, WindowCenter and WindowWidth adjusting, pseudo color transformation, so that the sufficient information of the medical images can be displayed and used for medical diagnostic. Finally the DICOM data can be transformed into Bitmap format for future image processing and analyzing.
