Solarwinds Orion Network Management System Construction And Secondary Development

Now, it's beyond imagination to maintain a long-term security and high-efficiency in network(for example in a universithy or in a large enterprise, ect) without a good and satisfied network management system. Some famous network management systems such as HP OpenView,CA Unicenter TNG are very functional, but they do need some professional technicians to handle the management, which will inevitably cost more in money as well as in time and have more difficulties in maintenance. Of course, this is not very practical for many enterprises. In order to answer the new market demand, some newly-developed systems arise since 1990s. Comparatively, they share some clear advantages such as: more plain and simple in technology, better in cost performance, more short-timed in implementation, more convenient in operation and maintenance, more valuable in the solution to practical questions, easier in being custom-built, etc.The serial systems by SolarWinds.Net(http://solarWinds.net/) which was studied in this dissertation are the typical representatives of these newly-developed ones. Through the writer had compared many network management systems, the Solarwinds Orion have comparative advantages as used in the network of Yibin Universithy. SolarWinds' comprehensive products continue to set benchmarks for quality and performance and have positioned the company as the leader in network management and discovery technology. SolarWinds' customer base now includes over 45 percent of the Fortune 500 and customers from over 90 countries.This dissertation is finished on the engineering background of the planning and construction and management of the network management system of Yibin Universithy ( http://www.yibinu.cn). The writer had mastered the plan and the constructed and the redevelopment and the managment of the network management system of this universithy, and the writer had taken in hand the about 90 percent tasks, and this study have been official declared as the scientific research task of Yibin Universithy by the writer. This dissertation particularly deals with the SolarWinds Orion (Orion Nwtwoek Performance Monitor, SolarWinds Toolset and SNMPc, etc) on its planning, deployment, implementation, security configuration, management, data backup and its coordination with other management softwares. Moreover, expands its functions under the analysis of Orion NetPerfMon database and the redevelopment by means of ASP programme.This SolarWinds Orion had been tested for period of time in Yibin Universithy's campus-wide network after it had already constructed, and then it have practicality been used in this universithy. So far, this SolarWinds Orion have already safely and stably worked at this universithy over two years. This SolarWinds Orion have played an important role in the network management of this universithy, and have made the campus-wide network in controllable, and have not brought obvious trouble up to now. This SolarWinds Orion had been better level in the congener universithy, and the writer had been requested by the other brother universithy to direct and help their network-management-center to plan and construct and use the network management system.
