Network Resource Utilization In Information Loss Study

Under the network environment, the academic information resource has achieved unprecedented development, appearing many types with various forms, the main types of which include: network database, electronic academic periodical, academic forum, academic conference, main pages of experts, websites of organizations and agencies, etc. From academic information resource, we can retrieve large amount of gray literature that are not contained in official published system, take a prompt review on existed academic achievement, new research trends of present academic circle and peer experts, and exchange opinions and share information with peers, which is the surmounting of network academic information resource to traditional paper literature. But, because the content of on-line academic information resource are not systematically organized, each kind of academic information resource being substantial and in disorder condition, it is difficult to grasp an overall sketch, which makes retrieval of on-line academic information just like looking for a needle in a haystack, resulting in the majority of on-line academic information resource being unavailable and waiting to be mined. Moreover, in the entire process of information retrieval, it has various choices, such as choices of information source, information processing objects, results of information retrieval and so on. In addition, during this process, the producer, conveyor and receiver are generally not the identical person, and the transmission system itself with some flaws causes more or less loss of information in the entire process to be used, even being distorted, which has seriously affected effective use of the network academic resources. This article is divided into three parts to discuss the problem of information loss in the process of utilization for users using network academic information:The first part has synthesized the manifestation of information loss of network academic resources while being used. The paper generalized the manifestation of information loss from six aspects: information loss, information damages, information distortion, limited use of information, information expiration, information redundancy and so on.The second part has analyzed the main reasons of information loss of network academic resources. It analyzed the problems existing in the network academic resources itself, information user, equipment, technology, management, etc.The third part put forward suggestion for avoiding or reducing the loss of network academic information. First, it must strengthen macro- and micro-management to the network academic resources; secondly, it should strengthen surveillance and appraisal of the network academic resources; third, it must strengthen organization and ordering of the network academic resources; fourth, it must improve the information quality of users; fifth, it must enhance the equipment performance and relative technology. Finally, it is advocated the information user uses reasonably the network academic resources, reducing information loss.
