Virtual Collection

At present bibliographic resources construction is front of crucial challenge, new types of books emerge massively such as: network books, network periodical and specialized database. Facing virtual information, Library must know characteristic and advantage of virtual storage sufficiently, pay attention to the construction of virtual storage. Library must adopt scientific method to organize virtual storage, keeping it' dominance position in information society.This article first elaborates the definition, the characteristic, the constitution and the reciprocity of virtual storage. Virtual storage is opposite to realistic collection, it is electronic information resources which are analyzed and reorganized from network what can be supplied to readers. Compared with tradition storage, virtual storage has many merits such as delivery quickly, ample, access liberalization, easy duplication etc, at the same time, it has shortcomings such as conversion cost highly, instability etc. Library must adopt scientific method to organize virtual storage, fully utilize it's advantage.The third part of this article elaborates the construction of virtual storage. Firstly, the author introduced the conditions of developed country's constructions of virtual storage, we can obtain advanced experience from the overseas: First, the government all gives the vigorously support from policy and fund; Next, the government occupies the dominant position in the public welfare information resource and the service; Third, the government encourages the privately operated enterprise and the personal organization to participate. Then the author elaborates our country's concrete advices about construction of the virtual storage from the realistic situation.The fourth part discusses the organization of virtual storage: index of web professional web, search engine. Firstly, it dwells upon composition, organization, maintenance and renewal of index of web; Secondly, it dwells upon how to design professional web; At last, it dwells on the organization of search engine and existence problem at present.The fourth part discusses the relevant problems in construction of library collection: characteristic construction and protection of the intellectual property rights. First it mainly elaborates the characteristic construction's significance: characteristic construction is effective approach of automation, digitization in library. It is the breakthrough of tradition construction of "large and comprehensive", "small but satisfy". Finally the author elaborates intellectual property rights in hypothesized collection construction and submits suggestion and measure.
