Under the requirement of intelligence of the automobile, the communications, and so on, both the science and techenology of the embedded system develop very fastly. In our country, people are studing the key techenologies both in hardware and software of the embedded system, and have designed a number of ASICs and embedded operating systems. For our country, it's a good opportulity to catch up with the advanced countries in the field of embedded system.eCos (embedded Configurable operating system) is an open source, configurable, portable, and royalty-free embedded real-time operating system. It has full-featured, flexible, configurable, real time embedded kernel, together with full-featured TCP/IP protocol stack. These advantages lead to a more and more widely usage. This thesis describes these characteristics and then analyses its kernel and porting process. ColdFire is serial of MCUs, with high performance, low power consume, low cost.These MCUs are used in many fields, such as automatic, consume electronic, and so on. Introduction of ColdFire architecture and its work mode is present in this thesis. Knowledge of porting eCos to these platforms with ColdFire MCU is the main results.This thesis proposes general steps to porting eCos onto platforms with ColdFire MCU, and solutions for problems in porting. As an example, eCos have been ported to MCF5208EVB, a convenient platform for evaluating many of the capabilities of the MCF5208 MCU, followed with measurement of this porting.As an application of the porting, the physical layer of IEEE 802.15.4 was realized on this platform MCF5208EVB, also with the evaluation.This thesis can guide the porting of eCos on to platforms with ColdFire MCUs, and also is the basis of realization of IEEE 802.15.4 or Zigbee on these platforms for the further development.
