With the fast development of signal processing technology and signal detection technology and computer technology and the need of modern high-tech war, modern sonar system is being digitized and intelligentized. Modern sonar systems have the better detection and localization abilities. As beam forming is the important part of sonar signal processing, it's necessary to design digital and high performance beam former. In this thesis, the beam forming algorithm of sonar system and the realization of the beam forming system is studied. The main contributions can be summarized as follows:1. Adaptive beam pattern optimization is studied, a beam forming algorithm of hydrophone array is presented, and adaptive method is adopted to optimize the beam pattern. With calibrated array manifold vectors replacing their theoretical values, the performance can be further improved and better beam pattern is obtained.2. The problem how beam forming algorithm of hydrophone array is implement is studied. A FIR filter has been used to implement the beam forming algorithm and the result of simulation is given.3. according to the simulation results and the index of system performance, the hardware circuit is designed, which is based on a 'DSP+CPLD+DRAM' pattern. The practicability of hardware is analyzed, and the realization of different function is also discussed, the procedure of system software design is described in details, including system work flow, optimization of calculating and programming FLASH code memory etc.4. Finally the debugging course of software and hardware is presented, and the debugging course of the signal processing system is presented. The system debugging steps and the experiment results are given.
