This thesis deals with the performance of the High Speed Uplink Packet Acces(sHSUPA,or E-DCH), which is a new concept currently studied in 3GPP for introduction in the WCDMA/UTRA-FDD standard. The key features of E-DCH is physical/MAC layer HARQ, 2ms short frame and Node B controlled scheduling. Introducing HARQ and 2ms short frame increases the transmitting rate of uplink packets, and make the transmitting power of UE lower. In the other hand, retransmission introduces extra delay in uplink, and using lower SF(Spread Factor) means the transmission in uplink is more likely to be interfered. Node B controlled scheduling makes the delay of scheduling shorter, which means more aggressive scheduling policy could be used, to achieve more useable uplink capacity.E-DCH physical layer is first introduced in this thesis, including the comparison of E-DCH and DCH, then the channels models, channel estimation, Rake receiver and HARQ protocol used in simulation is introduced, finally the performance of E-DCH under AWGN and multi-path fading channels is discussed, and the performance of using 8PSK modulation is compared with QPSK, which is specified in specified in 3GPP Release 6.
