The Fibre Channel Protocol is a new generation of network and data bus technology, and also a kind of network communication protocol that supports many kinds of media and connector.This technology makes it possible that the popular channel standard and the network protocol run through the same physical interface.It has the advantages of low delay, good compatibility, high reliability, fast transmission speeds and long transmission distance. Fiber Channel protocol is a combination of a number of sub-protocol. Similar to OSI or TCP/IP protocol, it also features the layered model.In order to adapt to the avionics application,the fiber channel provides a group of protocol subset:FC-AE (Fiber Channel Avionics Environment). FC-AE-1,553 as a part of FC-AE , has defined the mapping of FC-AE to MIL-STD-1,553 upper protocol , It is one of its purposes to permit smooth upgrading by utilizing already installed the MIL-STD-1,553 software and hardware, and through establishing mapping to MIL-STD-1,553 thus hence elevating the network compatibility.This article firstly introduces establishment and development of the fiber channel standard, and gives brief description of the fiber channel protocol structure, the layered model, the classified service, the topology and so on. After that, advancement and application background of FC-AE and the FC-AE-1553 protocol standard drafts are introduced. Then, further analysis and comparison of FC-AE-1553 protocol and traditional MIL-STD-1553 protocol are given in terms of network element entity, frame form, transmission process. Finally, emphasis are put on design of FC-AE-1553-Bridge, for which some conclusions are given out by analyzing specific module, detailed flowcharts and simulation test results.In this article, the design of FC-AE-1553-Bridge is a totally new subject, and there is no referential and comparable similar system at present. From this perspective, the research features innovation and foresight, and exhibits high reference value to development of such kind of products in the future.
