The instrumentation industry is undergoing a variety of exciting change as a result of the rapidly development of computer technology, micro-electronics technology and communication technology. Traditional instruments are almost composed of hardware or fixed-software, which hardly satisfied the needs of the rapidly development of new technology. In order to solve this problem, the (National Instrument) Corporation brought forward the term "Virtual instrument" and the slogan "software are instruments". With making use of the powerful calculation ability of computer, and composing of some necessary hardware, The "Virtual instrument" broken the limits of traditional instrument's abilities in field of calculation, DSP, display and so on. It brought an enormous transform in instrumentation community; Virtual instrument describes the combination of programmable instruments with general-purpose PCs.The main body of the thesis is studied for designing and realizing the multimeter testing, measuring systematic, and based on Virtual instrument theory, one kind of feasible scheme has been brought forward.In this paper, First, The basic concept of Virtual instrument, soft hardware and hardware structures and characteristic, the development of Virtual instrument have been introduced, and the function between tradition instrument and Virtual instrument has compared. Afterwards, this thesis designed detailed systematic design plan. Finally, the thesis detailed described the development scheme of hardware and software. In hardware realization scheme the circuit realizing method based on Blackfin DSP hardware have been introduced. In the scheme of software we designed the VDK embedded system and the system which developed by VB in PC. The System has been verified in the factory, which proved that the scheme have very good behaviors on real time nature, reliability, stability. It have embodied the advanced of Virtual instrument technology in measuring and controlling field.
