The high-speed electro-optic modulator is a key component of the optic-fiber communication system, but it impacts the development and application of optic-fiber communication because of the modulator's high price. Therefore, a research scheme for the high-performance and low-price modulator is presented in the thesis ----research on the novel high-speed polymer EO modulator based resonant absorption micro-ring.The performance of the key component of the novel modulator, that is the polymer micro-ring resonator, is studied in this thesis. The main content is listed as follows:Theoretically, the transfer functions of both drop and through channels are derived using coupled mode theory. And the influences of the coupling coefficients between straight waveguides and micro-ring, the loss in the micro-ring and the radii of micro-ring on spectral response in the micro-ring resonator are analyzed.Based on the analysis of the single-ring resonator, both the transfer functions of parallel-coupled structure and the ones of series-parallel structure in multiple-ring high order resonators are derived using the transfer matrix method. And the influences of the length of straight waveguide between rings, coupling coefficients between rings, coupling coefficient between straight waveguides and ring, the number of rings and the radii of rings on spectral response are also analyzed. Spectral response at drop channel with maximally flat response pass bands and sharper roll-off could be achieved by optimizing these parameters, so as to improve the performance of output spectral response. For the parallel-coupled structure, the symmetric spectral response is achieved by optimizing the length of the straight waveguide between rings, while for the series-coupled structure, the spectral response with maximally flat pass bands is achieved by setting the proper coupling coefficients symmetric and smaller in the middle of the structure. In addition, the free spectrum range is larger, which prevents the interference between channels, in the 2-ring resonator with different radius. The study in this thesis is valuable to micro-ring resonator design with good performance, and proves the feasibility in theory to manufacture the novel high speed polymer EO modulator based resonant absorption micro-ring.
