This thesis mainly introduces a solution of designing an embedded communication system based on the Ethernet TCP/IP technology and realizes it using PIC18F series high-powered microprocessor produced by Microchip Technology Incorporated. As a powerful communication technology, Ethernet has been widely applied to office automation and digital business field. Aiming to expanding the applications in industrial automation, apparatus automation and building automation fields, the costs of Ethernet technology applications need to be reduced, so that a bran-new and low-costs solution of embedded Ethernet system based on 8-bit microprocessor is brought forward in this paper. The traditional solutions usually use 16-bit or 32-bit microprocessor. This is exactly why they cost so much. Considering the characteristic of network implements in industrial automation field, the TCP/IP protocol could be simplified furthest.According to the OSI Reference Model and modularized concept, the whole system could be separated into several modules in the process of design, meanwhile, different kinds of implement interface is supplied to users. For different implements, users could put together of the suited modules to complete the whole system as assembling a machine. This system has great flexibility. It could be connected to the traditional apparatus as an Ethernet interface. On the other hand, it could also perform as a workstation by extending peripherally circuits to accomplish a degree of data collection, storage, analysis and processing functions. Finally, a remote monitor and control system was designed based on the method mentioned above. Then the system is tested in LAN to prove that the method is feasible.
