As the development of intermittent motion mechanism, cylindrical cam mechanism with finely kinematic and kinetic characters, has been widely used in various kinds of automatic equipments. Generally deemed as the tendency of development in modern manufacturing, modern CNC (Computer Numerical Control) system has become the key word of currently advanced manufacturing techniques. Moreover, the application of such kind of technique in the formation of spatial cylindrical cam may well be of both practical and theoretic significance especially for improving cylindrical cam manufacturing quality, mesh performance and promoting the manufacturing industrialization.In this paper, the following work has been done:(1) In view of non-conventional curve surface digitization and its developmental trends, this paper has studied the application of high-speed cutting and the NURBS interpolation technologies in numerical control system, and thus can ensure the efficiency, accuracy, flexibility and green in curve surface processing.(2) This paper has studied the cylindrical cam principle and creation method, established the mathematical models of cylindrical cam equivalent and un-equivalent machining methods.(3) Based on the platform of Pro/ENGINEER software, parameterized design and solid modeling of cylindrical cam has been done. The simulation about digitized generation has also been finished.(4) A new concept "Group wolves manufacturing"has been put forward. All the factors that affect machining precision are analyzed and integrated, such as cylindrical cam clamp and position, technology-line, cure position trajectory optimizing, machining parameters setting and selection, error elimination, cam machining profile measurement etc.(5) Based on DMU70V machining center, the cylindrical cam digitized generation system and experiment have been finished.Cylindrical cam machined by digitized generation technique in this paper is successful. It reduces man-made intervention and heavy workload, improves the manufacturing and working quality . Cylindrical cam digitized generation technique steers the cylindrical cam machining and manufacturing, and we should work hard for it in the future.
