Providing live media stream broadcast service over the internet is a challenging task. In this paper, we propose Peer-to-Peer Media Cast System (PMCS), an application layer multicast based peer-to-peer live streaming broadcast system that efficiently and cost-effectively provides live media stream broadcast service. In our mechanisms media stream is copied and distributed over the multicast tree. We propose a Peer-to-Peer Media Cast Protocol, which contains a multicast tree maintenance method and an algorithm to hand on information among peers. In order to send media type package easier. A Media Abstraction Layer has been designed to unify the different media format package process. And the Media Abstraction Layer acts as a server, which offer the same media packet of different media type.Through several simulation experiments, we show that the PMCS can perform continuous and steady media play-out while peer moving normal and abnormal. Just like a real peer-to-peer internet application.
