The DVB-S standard of digital television satellite broadcasting system was established by DVB (Digital Video Broadcasting) organization in 1995. Since then, many countries have developed and deployed digital television satellite broadcasting systems. In 1996, China published broadcasting television digital transmission technology system, adopting a digital television satellite broadcasting system similar as the DVB-S standard. The potential market is huge for electronic products conforming to the DVB-S standard. With recent advance in micro-electronics technologies, FPGA (Field Programmable Gate Array) has become more and more important in digital system design, because of its high performance in terms of scalability, functionality and so on.This dissertation takes advantages of the superiority of FPGA. First, I study the DVB-S standard in great details. Then, I implement the system with the dual design and simulation of both software and hardware, after comparing the results. The design is therefore more practical and reliable. The design architecture is also tailored to maintain the accuracy while not wasting resources.The organization of this dissertation is as follow:I introduce the background of digital television and the design based on FPGA in Chapter 1.I describe the principle of DVB-S QPSK modulator system in Chapter 2.I detail the design structure of DVB-S QPSK modulator based on FPGA, the design idea, interface definition and the simulation, analysis and verification of each module in Chapter 3.I describe the simulation and verification of the system in Chapter 4.I conclude this dissertation in Chapter 5.The main contribution of this dissertation is to design and simulate each module of DVB-S QPSK modulator based on my very own design idea and to implement and simulate the system using various design tools based on FPGA.
