Cmmi Software Process, Low-cost Research And Practice

At present, domestic software organizations urgently need improving process capability for competition. Capability Maturity Model Integration (CMMI) has been regarded as the software process model standard in academy studies, and has achieved great success in industry in US, Europe, and India. It supplies many scientific guides for software process improvement but it requires many resources in terms of fund, staff and time etc. to perform the expected practices of each process area, to achieve relevant goal and improve process capability. Most software organizations in China are medium and small companies with low process capability, in which resources for process improvement are limitedly invested. Therefore high cost becomes the biggest difficulty in conducting CMMI process improvement. An economically feasible and effective process improvement is highly needed. Consequently, CMMI cost degradation is absolutely required.The following research works are performed on cost degradation solution to solve these issues based on current research achievement.Firstly, important CMMI knowledge such as architecture, representation, component's relationships etc. is deeply understood. Then generic CMMI tailoring methodology is researched and summarized. A tailoring framework is proposed and important consideration, concrete operation, and choice of each component during tailoring process, etc. are illustrated in detail.Secondly, methods for software process cost measurement and capability measurement are researched. According to the idea from activity based costing methodology, an innovative way of measuring software process cost is proposed with its application analyzed; General process for software process measurement is described using statistic process control, focusing on stability and capability measurement implementation in detail as well.Thirdly, after the research on tailoring and measurement, CMMI cost degradation solution is proposed based on current software process status in China and process improvement guidelines.
