As the development of microwave technology and the universal use of VLSI (Very Large Scale Integration) and ULSI (Ultra Large Scale Integration), traditional automatic testing technology for PCB (Printed Circuit Board) is faced with a rigorous challenge. While diagnosis of electronic circtuitry using infrared thermography has been proven to be an attracting, rapid and non-contact method, the new technology does not conform to traditional guidelines for Automatic Test Equipment. Malfunctions can be diagnosed using infrared thermography without affecting the work state of tested equipments, thus the diagnostic accuracy can be improved. Infrared thermography, just as often, improves electronic fault diagnosis by isolating the malfunction to specific areas of the circuit board,what is more, it usually does point directly to the failing component. Thermography even can rapidly diagnose up to hundreds of elements on one PCB at one time, without requiring the operator to know the circuit principle very well, which can reduce the workload greatly.For TIPCT(Thermal Infrared Processing Circuit Tester), the original thermal image is the basis of accurate diagnosis,and so the high quality of original thermal image is the key for good work of infrared system. Related reports have said that, however, the detailed issue about improving the quality of original thermal image through increasing the radiation of components and eliminating interference has been hardly discussed. The factors of affecting the quality of original thermal image and the methods of heightening the original thermal image quality have been discussed. Both theoretical research and experiment results have demonstrated great quality improvement of original thermal image and a considerable accuracy enhancement of diagnosis.The system hardware circuits of TIPCT and the measures for improving the quality of original thermal image are mainly discussed. The primary research content and innovation are as follows:â‘´The innovation is that some methods have been proposed to impove the quality of orginal thermal image, such as controlling excitation time, increasing temperature, reducing noise and enhancing emissivity, and so on.
