With the numbers of mobile communication consumers continuing to grow sharply, the frequency resources are increasingly intense. Modern wireless communication systems require imminently the appearance of new-style antennas that have the merits of compactness, cost effectiveness, high gain and self-beam-steering ability. The technology of retrodirective array is very important to achieve this goal. A retrodirective array can transmit a signal back to the interrogator's position without any a priori knowledge of the incoming angle or relying on sophisticated digital signal processing algorithms. This merit makes it have good applied possibilities in modern military, especially digital commercial communication systems. In recent years, it has been one of the hotspots in the antennas research field. At present, there are many articles about it in other countries. Many forms of retrodirective arrays have been used for experimental study and all of them have good performance. But in our country, no researchers have studied retrodirective array synthetically and no correlative reports. Hence, to carry on studying about correlative topics in our country will have good applied possibilities and value, which reflects the studying lead in the field of communication research. The dissertation mainly focuses on the design and realization of retrodirective array with a lot of theoretical, numerical methods and experimental studies, and also includes discussing various technology and theory about it. More attentions are paid tothe engineering application. The author's major contributions are as follows: 1,In our country, the principle for achieving retrodirectivity, various new technique and new theory about retrodirective array are first studied synthetically.2,In our country, experimental applications studies about retrodirective array are first finished. Firstly, a novel four-element retrodirective array is designed, based on dual-polarization microstrip array antenna technology and phase-conjugating mixers technology. Secondly, a simple, effective testing system is designed and set up, by which the array's monostatic and bistatic Radar Cross Section (RCS) are tested. It...
