3D-Graphic engine is the latest technology of computer hardware and software development, the main characters of which are real-time, interaction and powerful Roaming. Nowadays it is widely used in many fields such as simulation actual combat system in military and 3D-Online game and so on. Character animation is a key component of the 3D-Graphic engine; it plays an important role in virtual reality, digital game and even in traditional software of animation manufacture. Real-time character animation is an important standard when to evaluate a 3D-Graphic engine.Articulated figure animation has made a great improvement during the past 20 years, especially those based on motion capture. In substance, motion Capture technology changes the method of animation manufacture from essence and shortens the time of animation manufacture, but as its inflexibility we must edit the data when reuse it. IK (inverse kinematics), contrary to Forward kinematics, computes the position and orientation of each articulated figure when given the position of character's end bone. Using IK algorithm can control the whole character by single bone, but nowadays the research mode of join animation combines Forward kinematics with inverse kinematics because it is too complicated to only use IK. Skinned mesh character animation is a new advanced technology in 3D animation field. Because of its vivid effect, it plays an important role in many fields such as film production, game production and so on.The character animation technology in 3D-Graphic engine is deeply studied in this thesis; it gives the implementation of articulated figure animation based on IK and skinned mesh character animation after analyzing the pluses and minuses of several character animation methods. Mesh optimization based on attribute and technology supported by hardware is used in skinned mesh character animation, furthermore, the implementation can generates new animation by blending several existing animations. The experimental result shows that it has good features such as vivid performance, real-time character and openness. It will improve the capability of 3D-Graphic engine by using this technology to drive animation.
