Long Sentences Deal With The Problem Of Intelligent English-chinese Machine Translation System

Long and complex sentences are typical in English and especially in scientific and technological English. It is often seen in scientific and technological English article for the sentences that have several lines or more in length and contain dozens or hundreds of words. They are common in normal and patent directions. The long sentence often contains several clauses and non-predicative phrasal verbs, and these clauses and phrases are usually so restrict and dependent each other that form complex language phenomena in which the clause includes phrase and the phrase includes clause. This kind of long sentence has a lot of advantage for logicality and strictness of English itself, but it causes much difficulty for machine translation(MT).This research topic dialyses one of main difficulties in MT in view of the technology. This difficulty is also the long sentence processing problem. After we analyze various long sentence processing technology in current MT, we point out their limitation. They stubbornly analyze the long sentences and hardly consider their intrinsic features, or they use empiricism method to process long sentences according to the surface texture and rarely study their intrinsic rules.
