With the development of the globalization process, more and more bilingual broadcasting and host activities have emerged in the media and the public life. Among all the languages used in bilingual broadcasting and host activities, Chinese-English bilingual broadcasting and host activities have the world’s most extensive target audience and the most powerful international influence. However, there are still many problems in the team construction of Chinese-English bilingual broadcasters and hosts. Both the academia and the industry of bilingual broadcasting and host are not quite clear of the requirements of the Chinese-English bilingual broadcasters and hosts’ qualities and abitities. That leads to the current situation of the Chinese-English bilingual broadcasers and hosts’ recruiting methods, which has a fuzzy standard and an unknown training direction. Thus, there is a serious shortage in the market of Chinese-English bilingual broadcasters and hosts.This paper aims to construct a competency model of Chinese English Bilingual Broadcasters and hosts based on the research of qualities and abilities that a Chinese-English broadcaster or host should have. After the competency model has been constructed, the author tries to give some sugeestions of how to establish and develop those qualities and ablities based on the model. The full text takes the Chinese-English bilingual broadcasters and hosts’ qualities as the research object and is divided into four chapters. The Introduction elaborates the research background, research significance, research object, research status, research ideas and research methods. The first chapter expounds the political quality of Chinese-English bilingual broadcasters and hosts. Chapter two discusses the professional quality of Chinese-English bilingual broadcasters and hosts mainly from two aspects: language qualities and professional qualities. The language qualities include Chinese English Bilingual Broadcasting host’s tone of voice, language normativity, language organization ability, manuscript writing ability and body language. Professional qualities mainly include broadcasting and host capabilities, news literacy and psychological quality. Chapter three elaborates the training methods of Chinese-English broadcasters and hosts’ language qualities and professional qualities. The fourth chapter discusses the Chinese-English bilingual broadcasters and hosts’ cultural qualities and media qualities. The Conclusion elaborates the integrated Chinese-English bilingual broadcasters and hosts’ competency model and puts forward some suggestion on the training methods of these qualities.It is the first time in academia to construct the Chinese-English bilingual broadcasters and hosts competency model. Specifically speaking, political quality is the important quality; professional quality is the basic quality, which includes three branches: broadcasting and hosts ability as the core quality, language quality as the key quality, and cultural quality as the basic quality; media quality is the key quality. This paper uses literature research method, empirical research method, comparative research method, qualitative and quantitative research method, questionnaire and interview research methods to describe, generalize, interpret and build up the competency model and to explore the inherent law of Chinese English Bilingual Broadcasting and host. Aiming at defining an independent, systematic and theoretical domain of the Chinese-English bilingual broadcasters and hosts’ competency model, the research provides foundation and references to the understanding and training of Chinese-English bilingual broadcasters and hosts theoretically and practically.
