This paper has demonstrated the necessity and advantages of building No. 2 Galvan-aluminum Processing Line in Panzhihua Iron & Steel (Group) Company. In regard of its operation afterwards, this line has shown great advantages in comparison with other similar ones. The Galvan-aluminum products have refreshed the present domestic market product categories, the quality, the surface and the properties of the home appliance category have outfitted the other domestic producers and enjoyed a large number of exports, which has been beneficial to PanGang's market share and profit.The paper presents a big descriptions on the automatic material tracking system from design to controls in the No.2 Galvan-aluminum processing line. Detailed descriptions have been made on the layout, equipment features to be used for designing the configuration of the automation system and its typical control design as well as the material tracking system. Specific executions of the fly-shear angle calculation, skin-pass mill control, line speed and tension control designed in the typical control design have been deliberately described, which is valuable for the domestic industry applications.The automation system used in afore-mentioned No.2 line are Siemens S7 Series while the drive system are the Siemens 6SE70 Series of All Digital AC Drive System with a uniform common DC Power Bus Supply. The HMI system is Wincc System which presents good visional interfaces. L1 Communication uses Profibus which adopts TCP/IP Protocol for communications with Welder, Thickness Gauge, Air Knife and L2. The design of L2 is Oracle Database, which is based on VAI-environment platform developed by VAI-C and is highly practical in processing operations. A communication has been realized between the material tracking system and L3 of PanGang ERP System , which has laid a good foundation for ERP System development. The Annealing Furnace applies F.A.S system from French SH, which has been stable in furnace operations. In view of the design level, the whole line is very advanced and enjoys leading position in domestic industry. The line has given valuable experiences to the future domestic constructions of similar lines with main self-reliance.
