Recent years, our country has paid more and more attention on the protection of intangible heritages. In this article, we apply digital techniques into the protection of folk dance and provide new methods for its conservation and utilization. Our main jobs include:1. Design and implement a digital conservation and exhibition solution for folk dance. We use motion capture technique to record actors' original performance and implement skeleton animation for real-time virtual dance exhibition. Compared with traditional methods, this approach can provide free view from any distances and directions. We also introduce Vertex Shader to improve rendering efficiency.2. Based on above digital conservation and exhibition techniques, we provide corresponding computer assisted dance producing and arranging solutions:a) Design a multi-resolution based filtering method to extract motion path. Users can preserve different level of details according to their own apperception. Dance designers can modify exist motion clips and arrange them on the stage.b) Using Euler angle interpolation to connect different motion clips. The difference between frames was measured by the distances between vertices which were driven by bones. This approach improves the original method that measures the difference between frames by the angles and ignores limbs' twisting.Through these techniques, we can preview the effects of dance and make modification before actual performance, thus to reduce difficulty and workload.3. Finally, we apply above techniques to the protection of Zhejiang province's folk dance and achieve good comments from folk dance experts.
