New Internet applications are coming out at an unprecedented rate under the rapid development of Internet technologies. And such new applications are asking for more from the Internet. For example, it is required that the network be more reliable in real-time services as they carry both video and audio data. A transient delay between bilateral nodes is a must in IP phone transfers. And it is also hoped that the network become more intelligent as all Internet service providers long for a better way that their customers could share network infrastructures without any disturbance from each other. It is under the call of this situation that the QoS technology, which bases on IP network and which supports multiple services, comes into being. And DiffServ, one of QoS standards, has improved a good deal in recent years. It enjoys greater advantages as it can generate a predictable data flow transfer: It assigns data flows to different service levels, and offers relevant services accordingly. Its support for QoS depends in large on the transfer service levels while its information storage grows proportional to the increases of levels rather to the amount of data flow. This fine extensibility of DiffServ standard is a strength highly recommended by IETF. The fast progress of IPv6 in the past few years has already claimed for it a promising prospect in the Internet world. Network processor, being a brand-new network technology, is still in its infancy. However, with abundant incomparable superiorities, it is sure to thrive in the near future.Considering in this regard, the present thesis is going to give an elaboration on some key technologies concerning IPv6 DiffServ System.Chapter one begins with a survey of the background and briefs on some core technologies concerning the system.Chapter two makes an introduction to the system base and its software platform. Chapter three is an expatiation on the designing of the DiffServ System.Chapter four deals with some key technologies in the implementation process, including the hardware structure, software framework, microblocks, core components and their relationships.Chapter five draws a conclusion of the present work, delivering expectations for future research within the area.
