Internet provides the best-effort service. With the growth of the Internet and the increasing of requiring and num of network consumers, Internet must guarantee to provide the real-time service and QoS. Now Internet is changing from simplex data communication network to multimedia network, so QoS is the core research.IXP2400 is one of the Intel second generation NPs (Network-processor). In this paper, we introduce the hardware architecture and the characteristic of every mostly device, and we also describe the software framework and idea of modularization. Parallel-processing of NP is the key technique which we researched. We also introduce the application of NP in the field of data communication and network security. All of these prove that NP must be a field of NGN.We also mainly study the module of usual QoS and the arithmetic of QoS which can satisfy the multi-task network. We research on the characteristic and feasibility of InServ (Integrated Service) and DiffServ (Differentiated Service), and the characteristic of ARED (Adaptive Random Early Detection) algorithm.Our project is based on Enp2611 that only has one NP. The key research is ARED algorithm. In classify module, we only used IP-pair, this simplify the processing. The key aim is testing the performance of QoS using NP. We distribute the resource based the hardware. There are four mainly module which is Recving, Transmiting, classifying and scheduler. The simulator is on software of IXA SDK 3.5.1.
