The Online News Title is a new type of title in the modern media, and the research on that is an important aspect of the research on the online news. In a sense, the online news title is the bridge of the reader and the content of the news. It counts for a great deal on the click-through rate and also the quality and benefit of the news website. However, till now, the research on the title still focuses on the traditional media, such as newspaper, television, broadcasting and so on, while there are few discussions on the online news title. So this paper is written to give a general analyses and sum-up of the connotation, structure, characteristics, functions and problems of the online news title, and to get some basic principles for the further writing.The paper is consisted of seven parts: the first part is the introduction, which includes the online media's course in China, the research result of the study of news title, and present situation of the online news title. The second part is the definition of the online news title. The third part mainly focuses on the sorts of the online news titles. The online news titles are sorted according to the structural characteristics, the location on the page, and the types of literature. The fourth part compares it with the traditional news title, and sums up a few different characteristics of the online news title. The fifth part is about four main functions of the online news title: showing the content of the news, estimating the significance of the news, giving the interlink age to search, and downloading. The sixth part starts from the present problems of the online news title and ends with the new requirements toward the online news practitioner. The seventh part is the conclusion and the expectation of the future.
