China's rural peasant-worker is such a new social stratum that differentiated from the traditional peasant class during the social transformation period. In the background of the mass media's intense trend towards commercialization, as the audience, numerous peasant-workers became the edge group in the mass communication field. The mobility of the peasant-workers into city needs more information service from the mass media. Moreover, they have been qualified for getting touch with the mass media considering their cultural level, earnings, leisure, mental demands and so on. So they have become consumers of information. Meanwhile, the theme of rural peasant-worker is of high news worth and widens the subject matter of the media reporting. This academic thesis found out peasant-workers' exposure situation, their information demands and media choice through questionnaire investigation and case interview. And by means of analyzing the main problems of the peasant-worker report under the media agenda setting and the role malposition of the media, draw a conclusion that the rural peasant-worker is a disadvantaged group not only in the social field but also in the mass communication field, and the news reports in fact intensify the new dual (urban and rural) social structure. The community structure of rural peasant-workers makes for communication. In accordance with their practical demands, our mass media should be dedicated to cultivating their modern idea, trying to find out the resonance and establish the interaction between them and the media. Thus our media can play an important role in peasant-workers' continuing socialization.
