Xml Data Management Technology

As the development of Internet and XML, XML is rapidly emerging as a standard for representing and exchanging data on the World Wide Web. So how to efficiently manage XML data is becoming a valuable topic, and will play an important role especially in applications based on the Web.The paper first analysises the characteristic of XML. Then from the point of application, it discusses two approaches of storing XML data in the relational database management systems:storing XML documents as native format or as relational format, based on the current approaches of XML management. The main part of our work is to store XML documents as native format, because its data model is based on XML, not the relational model, so we can't directly apply the traditional technology designed for relational data in an RDBMS. For storing XML documents as relational format, the XML documents are first mapped to relational data conforming some rule, and then RDBMS is used to store and manage the transformed data, and users receive data with XML format. We put emphasis on XML documents in and out of the RDBMS and how to manage them on the document level. Finally, A simple XML management system is realized which can store, delete, update, and query XML documents.
