With the rapid development of computer network technology, online teaching hasbecome one of the most popular teaching methods, owing to its convenience, richcontent, and many other advantages. At present, many colleges and universities havebeen collecting and integrating outstanding teaching resources inside and outside thecampus, to build their own library of teaching resources. In the college campus networkenvironment, many users own a large number of video teaching resources. How toachieve effective management and sharing and how to provide a public interactiveplatform for learners by using these materials sufficiently, are general problems incollege video teaching resources construction. Being combined with the presentdevelopment and management of college video teaching resources, in this paper, aplatform of video teaching resources is designed and built to solve these problems, andto provide a good environment for resource sharing and interactive learning. The mainresearches are listed as follows:1. Based on the study of network teaching resources metadata standards andapplication technology, with reference to IEEE LOM, CELTS-3.1and CELTS-41standard, local video resource metadata is developed. Resources is instantiated to beXML description documents by standardized description of resources metadata withXML.2. The XML description documents of resources metadata are kept and managedby Native XML databases. And the storage and query technology of Native XMLdatabase are studied. In this study, the open source Native XML database eXist isemployed to manage XML description documents.3. Starting from the needs analysis of platform, this research, with the mainpurpose of providing excellent services to the learners, designs the platform’s overallstructure and function modules according to the modular design principle. The SMILand Windows Media’s streaming media technology are combined, and the playlists’sresource package uploading and resources scheduling playback are designed. Inaddition, the Semantic Web technologies is introduced to build a domain ontologyclassification of resources. Through the Resource Description Framework(RDF) andOntology Languages(OWL), classified management of video teaching resources areachieved. In this paper, video teaching resources platform is the main research object, and theentire development process is guided by software engineering. Platform functionalrequirements, structural design, system implementation and other aspects are given indetail. All study objects are builded with open source software and tools, and theplatform is open, sharing, and scalable and so on.
