This dissertation is about the study and improvement of routing algorithm inWireless Mesh Network. The Wireless Mesh Network (WMN) is a new type ofwireless communication network. WMN is capable of self-organization andmulti-hop routing, as well as its capability of mobile user management and tracing. It is a multi-hop broad bandwidth distributing wireless network with high capacityand high transmission rate. WMN is a special WLAN. It is in substance a kind ofAd hoc with low mobility. Now many people believe that WMN is a wirelessversion of Internet as a static wireless network with routers and nodes withwireless links. As a new type of network structure, Mesh is included into802.16-2004,802.16e and the coming 802.11s standards.Design of the SQOR (Selective Quality On-demand Routing) algorithm isthe main part of this dissertation. SQOR is a wireless Mesh routing algorithmbased on AODV routing protocol. Illumined by the MR-LQSR (Multi Radio-LinkQuality Source Routing) protocol proposed by Microsoft, and based on the systemstructure of multi-hop networks with multiple radios, a new standard for routing isput forward concerning system throughput and link data rate, etc. This improvesthe utilization and efficiency of WMN. It is first introduced that what theWireless Mesh Network is. Then it gives a snapshot of some former typicalwireless self-organizing network routing protocols. The principals of theseprotocols and the design of SQOR are elaborated as the main part of thisdissertation. Also the simulations are worked out to describe and verify thealgorithm, and key flows are given in detail. All the completed work described here plays a basic and important role in therealization of Wireless Mesh routing protocols. The new should be standard withrouting combined with routing discovery and routing maintenance processes, andcooperate with hardware platform, link layer driver and user authenticationmanagement work groups. It has made a preparation for the improvement of thewhole Wireless Mesh Network system.
