Software Testing Based On Defect Management Methods And Applications

The work of this paper aims at large software projects testing, in which defects are numerous so that it needs defects information recorded standardly and in which defects are modified, regression iteratively, difficult to query an statistics so that it needs defects tracked in time and drastically, defects systemized managing, standardized recording and defects statistics automatized, thus providing real-time, effective and direct information for testing management, improving software testing quality and efficiency. The key aspect is to make sure the requirement of the defect management tool.This paper focus on the research of defect management tool, of which is simple, flexible , suitable for the software testing defect management process and easy to learn, use and customize. Combing CMM and testing practice, The defect management tool can define testing format, defects level, defect type, defect origin in maintaining dictionary, standardizing information transformed in defects managing flow; it defined the flow in life cycle of defects controlling the conversion of defect state; manager can query defects based on different conditions according to his need, get to know defects' state distribution of different level; knowing the work efficiency of testing persons in a period of time according the automatic statistics result; collecting the abilities of different testing format; it can export testing record sheet, the statistics result in it is the part of the testing report.The testing record sheet is accomplished based on beforehand defined Excel template. This template is customized based on practical need in testing process. It has abundant information: testing results, modified results, regression testing results, and other detailed information of defect. The statistics graph can be easily got using statistics function of Excel; and vivid defect trendline and defect distributing chart can be got using chart function of Excel. It helps test manager effectively know the testing schedule, testing quality and product quality, etc. The future optimization mainly involves management combining test case; getting statistics and process capability baseline of defect density;continuously improving software testing capability level by improving software testing process.
