As the foundation of Information & Communication Technologies in education, the implementation of the Instructional Resource System is a systematic project, which requires long-term work and maintenance. The Instructional Resource System is not easy to be managed and used because there are too many different levels and properties due to its complexity and variety. Therefore, how to make use of the database and Web techniques to set up the Instructional Resource System is a very realistic research topic. At the same time, it is needed by our implementation of the National Exemplary Course.Distributed Computing techniques are usually used to describe those distributed application systems which aim to share resources and cooperate with each other. Currently, there are three models of the software component, they are CORBA, DCOM and EJB. At the beginning of this thesis, these three models are discussed and compared. CORBA, a standard related to distributed object management system, is suggested by Object Management Group (OMG). It has become a major industry standard. This thesis discusses the architecture and protocol standard of CORBA.On this basis, Java and CORBA techniques are used to design and develop a component named DataAccessBean, which can access most kinds of databases. This component offers an uniform interface for all applications by which one can access most kinds of databases transparently (if only the database sustains JDBC or ODBC). In order to improve the performance of the component, the technique of database connection pool is used internally, and in the process of disposing the data muster, the Java Object Sequentializing technique and the XML technique are used. After discussing design and implementation of Instructional Resource Management System, the paper presents the system frame of Web-Based Instructional Support System and instructional functions provided by this system, and then it shows how to make use of Java Applet which can supply the service of CORBA to build the Instructional Resource Management System. At the same time, the paper defines a CORBA/JavaBean Bridge to access the Java Bean in the National Exemplary Course. The paper also puts forward some opinions about how to apply CORBA on building the Instructional Resource Management System.
