With the development of computing network and the requirements of enterprises distributed application software, application server becomes a large software foundation following operating system and DBMS. Being the running support platform in network, application server is receiving widespread endorsement from key areas e.g., E-Government, E-Business etc. More and more distributed enterprise applications improve manageability and maintainability just to keep up with the growth of distributed application capability. Being the key support technology, application server provides the necessary computing environment for distributed enterprise application. So how to provide system management function to resolve the problem of distributed application management efficiently, meet the requirements of enterprise distributed application in deployment management, performance optimization, configure management and fault management is a research with general purpose and practical value.CORBA Component Model (CCM) is a middleware to support server-side distributed application development and running management. Based on the research of StarCCM application server developed by National University of Defense Technology, the StarCCM application server management platform is studied and implemented.The main work in this paper is summarized as follows:1. The evolvement of distributed system management model including the centralized, dispersed, network and distributed is analyzed. The management content and technology characteristics of different management models are compared, and the catalog and object of distributed system management are discussed deeply.2. The basic running principle, system characteristics, development technology and running mechanics of distributed component are analyzed. The problems faced by application server based on CORBA component model are proposed. According to these problems, the AMA level management framework of StarCCM application server is proposed.3. The architecture, system management content and McMcMs application management model of StarCCM are discussed. The interface of application management, performance management, configuration management and deployment management in StarCCM application server is designed and implemented.4. Based on the management service provide by StarCCM management platform, the StarCCM monitoring tool is designed and implemented. Depending on this monitoring tool, the System manager can accomplish various of management tasks correctly.5. Then, the performance test is carried out for StarCCM application server with managementfunction. Simulation results show the less system cost and the manageability and maintainability of system are improved efficiently.
