Radius Protocol-based Wireless Data Services, Prepaid Solutions

The rapid development of wireless communication and Internet technology speeds up the evolution of wireless data service (WDS). More and more mobile subscribers, with their radio terminal, begin to access Internet and use WDS based on packet switched domain. In order to preempt the market of WDS, operators of mobile communication must accelerate the construction of their network. However, the enormous sum of arrear makes them hang a leg. This problem will become bigger when the 3G communication era comes. To adopt prepaid mode to operate WDS can resolve this problem very well.Currently, GSM is the largest 2G mobile communication system. It will evolve to 3G WCDMA via 2.5G GPRS. This paper will intensively discuss the prepaid solution for WDS in WCDMA network. The paper has deeply researched WCDMA, mobile intelligent network (MIN) and RADIUS protocol, and put forward a prepaid solution for WDS based on RADIUS protocol in WCDMA network, with the reference of the prepaid service based on MIN and the RADIUS application in AAA of cable network, according to the special requirement of WDS. The researches of this paper are as follows:1. Research the market development and positioning of WDS, indicate the damage to telecommunication industry caused by user arrear. Analyse the market needs of prepaid solution for WDS.2. Research the evolution of the mobile telecommunication system from 2G to 3G, the network architecture and interface specifications of WCDMA. Analyse the functions of those entities which play a role in WDS's control in WCDMA network.3. Research the architecture of MIN, specification of CAMEL, prepaid service signaling flow of conventional voice service under various situations, and the extension of MIN for WDS. Analyse the difference between data service and voice service. Summarize the traits of prepaid service, identify the demerits of prepaid mode based on MIN.
