With more and more digital TV programs broadcasting in succession, digital TV is gradually soaking into our life. AS a basis of digital TV, MPEG-2 has become a research focus. However, the research focus is paied more attentions on the algorithmic and realization about compression, when you skim over some relative Papers.so there need a further study in system level, especially in how to deal with MPEG-2 transport streams. This paper try to do some useful researches on physical interface and processing to MPEG-2 transport streams,which based on researches in former QAM modulator.These processing functions include: ASI interface processing ,TS synchronization,transport streams buffer,NIT update and PCR's correction. Thus this paper explains basal theory and how to realize in separate paragraphs, show the whole process about head-end TS package processor of QAM modulator is how to be designed,developped and debugged by FPGA. In chapter 1, the concept,characteristic,standard and development state of digital TV are introduced, the background and tasks of reaserch are also explained. In chapter 2, the design theory of head-end TS package processor is introduced in whole. The scheme is discussed and the problems needed to resolve is confirmed. It also illustrated the partitions of logic function modules in software and correlative develop platform. In chapter 3, based on ASI (asynchronous serial transport), the theory of ASI and the realize of input interface in head-end TS package processor are presented. In chapter 4, the basis theory of MPEG-2 transport streams is introduced, the seek and trace of synchronization is given aim at false synchronization or false dis-synchronization. With the help of statistical probability and a state conversion module, the best value of pretend progressions is calculated. Aim at data overflow, the null packages filtered in intelligent and packages fill in aotumatic are given as well. In chapter 5, the theory of Program Special Information in MPEG-2 and Service Information in DVB, the characteristic and syntax of Network Information Table are introduced; the design for NIT's update is given.
