At present, the practical network structures are all layered architecture, and TCP/IP dominates the Internet. TCP/IP was developed for narrowband text transfer. Now, with the rapid development of global Internet, people avail the network and depend on it more and more, but because of the original designing mechanism, the layered architecture can't satisfy peoples demand correspondingly, and the disadvantage of TCP/IP becomes obvious in such cases. Now there are two research ways on the network architectures, one is to mend on the TCP/IP, which can't solve the problem because it still works on the layered architectures. The other one is to study new architectures, that is the radical way to solve the problems. By analyzing and classifying network services, a novel network architecture called the service unit based network architecture (SUNA) was presented. This paper mainly analyses the features of the structure, the models of nodes, the definition of SU and the services which were provided by SU, then the Micro Communication Element System (MCES) is educed. This project aims to implement the micro-communication element system (MCES), the first network system under the SUNA framework. It includes the host and router model implementations of the MCES. The emphases of this paper is the introduction of the design and realization of the router on the platform of Linux, which is based on the datagram packages of MCES. It contains the following functions: Router can correctly send and receive the user datagram protocols (UDP) datagram; Configurable routing table and routing parameters; ICMP criterion support; RIP criterion support and so on. At last, regarding rigid and comprehensive tests, we summarize the MCES characters, and give the advices for later work.
