Future broadband wireless communication systems should be ableto provide reliable high-data-rate transmissions at low cost in time andfrequency selective wireless channel. Multiple Input Multiple Output(MIMO) technique, one of the most significant breakthroughs inwireless communications field offers an effective way to combat andeven exploit fading. However, in order to put this novel idea into practice, besidesmore effective signal processing techniques should be developed, extract channel estimation is necessary to estimate the effect of thechannel on the transmitted signal so that the transmitted informationcan be correctly recovered on receiver side. Channel estimation inMIMO wireless communication systems plays a key role as theperformance of space-time decoders depends on how accurate thechannel knowledge is.In this thesis, channel estimation, one of the most importanttechniques in MIMO system, is researched. The author:Ananlyzes the characteristics, modeling and simulation ofwideband MIMO channels, presents some simulation results;Explores the MIMO channel estimation methods based on pilotsymbol assistance in the case of flat fading channel, presentssimulation results, analyzes the performance of different methods.Discusses MIMO channel estimation in frequency-selective fadingchannel, presents simulation results and investigates the design oftraining sequence;Takes part in the exploitation of channel estimation module of softsimulation platform, realizes some channel estimation methods intopractice experiments. Presents some processing results of exprimentdata. The processing results indicate the channel estimation methodsused in expriment system can accomplish estimation of channel.
