With the increasing requirement of wireless communications, there is rapid development in wireless communication systems. The design, research and development of wireless communications has become increasingly complex, so the test of wireless communication system is more and more important in the R&D of wireless communication system. To accelerate development, the engineers need simulate the actual communication channel in the laboratory to debugging the wireless communication system. The wireless channel emulator has been a necessary device to debug wireless communication system.The small-scale fading in wireless channel is the most influence in the receiver design of wireless communication system. This paper analysis wireless channel model and the channel parameters based on the wireless communication propagation characteristics, especially analysis the physical characteristics of small-scale fading channel and the mathematical models of multipath propagation, Doppler frequency shift and multipath delay. In order to obtain flat fading channel simulation model which is used for frequency selective channel simulation we analysis the improved Jakes simulation model.The FPGA implemented wireless channel emulator is based on Clarke model. We choose the Jakes simulation model improved by Xiao, Zhang and Beaulieu etc to be implemented. Taking advantage of this simulation model and the FPGA chip characteristics, we use the module multiplex and pipe-line technology to reduce resource and have satisfactory simulation results at the same time. In the use of frequency-selective channel emulator based on the fading channel emulator for the test of wireless communication system prototype, the simulate result is corresponding with the actual situation.
