With the rapid development of the modern economy, keeping trafficand transportation safe and orderly is becoming more and more important,Intelligent Traffic System is being followed. Technology of the vehicledetection is the key to the series of technologies for the intelligent trafficsystem. Research on the technology for the vehicle detection based onimage processing is just the hot of the field.Research on detecting vehicles based on image processing began on1980s. Up to now, detecting ideas and detecting technology has beenupdating. Some researchs are based on detecting region, some are based onthe whole picture. Most of thesises are base on the whole picture. Aboutday traffic scene, the author presented an algorithm based HSV color spaceand edge detecting technology. The algorithm detects vehicles and countsvehicles by means of color information and edge information betweenbackground region and foreground region. The recognition rate of thealgorithm can reach over 96%. The About night traffic scene, the authorpresents an algorithm based on image division technology and morphology.The algorithm recognizes vehicles and counts vehicles through detectingthe front lights of car.The author makes use of the dynamic background refreshingtechnology, the edge detecting technology, the image division technology,morphnology technology and object recgonization technology. The authoradopted Direct Show technology in programming. By means of thetechnology, the demonstration system developed is able to adapted tovarious types of videos.
