Nowadays, more and more scientists have put their eyes in the research of the neural system, especially the olfactory system. Olfactory sensor may be the most unknown one. It is reported that the mechanism of olfactory neural system could have much relationship with the study and memory mechanism of the brain, so we can know more about the neural system through the studies of the olfactory system. Two studies—simulation and modeling of olfactory system, and the study of the olfactory neural chip have been carried on in our lab. On the base of them, we developed a data acquisition system to acquire the neural signals from the neural chip synchronously.This system includes two parts: hardware and software. The hardware part is made up of programmable amplifier circuit, analog optocoupler circuit and A/D circuit. In this paper, we explained the theory of each circuit part and described the parameters of some important chips that are used in the system. After that, PCI Bus specification and timing are analyzed in this paper. The method of realizing PCI Bus interface circuit is analyzed at the same time. The method of using universal interface chip PCI9054 to realize it is presented. The software part includes DSP software design, CPLD software design and PCI driver design.The microelectrode array based on sensor will be combined with K set of models for testing these models, especially improving these models. Furthermore, we can research on the mechanism of olfactory neural system and develop a new spatiotemporal codes model.
