Hybrid Structure Based On C / S And B / S Educational Management System Design And Development,

The development of information technology and computer network has been contributing a lot to the administration system in the institutes of higher learning. With the rapid progress of Chinese economy and the global economy, further reform of higher education is under way and higher standards of education are proposed for the modernization and informationization of administration in universities and colleges. In the 21st century, many universities have been giving priority to the establishment of "digital campus" to sharpen their competitive edges. The "digital campus" is a very important part in the informationization of national education, and it does work to improve efficiency. It offers the most powerful and reliable data for the decision-making in higher education. The information system of administration and teaching is part of the "digital campus" program. Most traditional information systems owned by many universities can only satisfy the basic requirements. However, the latest development in teaching administration such as the launching of the credit system calls for an advanced information system. Under the circumstances, the educational administrative division of Southwestern Universities of Finance and Economy has developed the new information system of administration and teaching combining the C/S (Client/Server) and B/S/DBMS(Browser/Web Server/Database Manage System, also named B/S) together. It has been put into use so far. The author, as one of the major designer, elaborates on the developing process and major techniques employed in the system. This dissertation is composed of three parts: the introduction, the body and the conclusion. In the introduction, it briefly states the significance of the developing the system and introduce the software employed in the system. The body consists of four chapters, discussing the adopted technology and the developing idea. In the conclusion, it sums up the writing of the dissertation and point out what needs to be improved. The first chapter deals with the features of C/S and B/S respectively. The software products have experienced the three stages: the single computer system in the early times, then two-layer structure and today three-layer structures. The three-layer one is playing a major role nowadays. The second chapter discusses the several developing platform and technologies available nowadays. They includes COM (Component Object Model) produced by Microsoft, CORBA (Common Object Request Breaker Architecture) standard platform produced by OMG(Object Management Group), and the .NET developing platform of Microsoft. The application of these technologies and platforms to construct the three-layer structure has been the focus in this chapter. The third chapter elaborates on the overall plan of the information system of administration and teaching, which is based on the combination of C/S and B/S. The framework of the whole system is first presented here, and then the specific problems are discussed in details. Finally, it also presents the standard of computer network employed in the information system of administration and teaching. The fourth chapter demonstrates the goals that the system aims to achieve and the functions of different parts included in the system. To sum up, the designing innovations in the information system of administration and teaching are embodied as follows. 1. It gains the capability of dealing with all aspects of administration and teaching in SWUFE .People's Republic of China. 3. It follows the latest technological advancement. 4. It takes the workload of system into consideration. So far, the friendly interface and simple operation enable the popular use of the system. However, some problems still exist in the system. For example, the security of the data in the system needs to be optimized and the automation of class-arranging require further improvement. In the future, efforts will be made in these respects.
